Back to Nature

When you remember that you came into this world screaming,

go back to nature and all the rest you were born into.

Lotus flowers outreaching their tender leaves through

the muck of mud and insects and wet fish,

bursting through without a spot, petal by petal.

When you remember that you are made of darkness,

go back to nature and all the rest you are made of.

Blood beneath skin, river beneath mountain,

crooning like a heartbeat, with one direction.

Forward and moving.

When you remember that you fall sometimes more than you get up,

go back to nature and all the rest you are made for.

The tree in the park with initials engraved into its chest,

perfectly sturdy limbs to hold a body and leaves,

Sitting stationary but full of indefatigable purpose.

When you remember these things, and forget others

go back to nature, and it will come back to you.
