I'm Jennifer Xia.
About Me
I'm currently a journalism senior at the University of Texas at Austin in the Moody Honors Program. Storytelling is how I listen and understand the world I live in and the people who live in it. I'm passionate about telling very human-centered stories, especially surrounding how race, gender and identity play into how people navigate and experience the world they live in. I love both print/prose and multimedia work, using words and visual elements to tell more compelling and personal stories. I'm interested in working in communications and social media for nonprofits and other organizations working to bring about meaningful change.
Experience
I have interned at Austin Monthly, Austin Woman Magazine and the Daily Dot writing print news and feature stories and have also written for the news department at the Daily Texan. I have served as the Associate Video Editor at the Daily Texan Video Department where I helped manage the department and produce content ranging from shorter to longer form stories. I also worked on script writing, managed social media and wrote and produced an original children's audio story at The Drag and transitioned to being a freelancer for the Daily Dot. Recently, I have helped with communications and social media for the journalism school and center for community engagement at the University of Texas at Austin, creating social media graphics, working on the creation of a newsletter and writing news articles and features. I also work as a communications intern at St. David's Foundation, a nonprofit with the mission of advancing health equity. Check out more of my work!
